After the disappointment of an early FA Cup exit last Saturday a visit to a strong Daventry team was not the ideal game to get the Crows back to winning ways. However the response from the team was outstanding and they easily swept aside a side that reached for First Round proper of the FA Cup last season.

As early as the 10th minute the Crows began peppering the Daventry goal. An impressive step over from Watters allowed Fehmi to drift in behind but his strike failed to test the keeper. A minute later a superb cross field pass from Bradshaw found Endacott in space down the left side but his low cross flashed across the goal needing just a touch to turn it home. Eventually the pressure told and the Crows took the lead in the 30th minute. A set play at a corner saw the ball half cleared to Scott Bridges who volleyed home through a crowded box.

The Crows continued to dominate and Daventry had to wait until the 40th minute before their first attempt on target but Mitch Piggon’s shot from 20 yards was easily collected by Bastock.

Daventry started the second half with their Manager’s words still ringing in their ears but his words of encouragement were soon forgotten. Just three inutes into the half saw Fehmi cleverly waltz past two defenders to set up Watters who fired home to put Royston two up.

Seven minutes later the game was effectively over when Endacott scored the best goal of the game. Great interplay between Hammond and Fehmi saw a chipped pass float over the defenders head onto the chest of the onrushing Endacott who controlled and volleyed home from 15 yards past the hapless Daventry keeper.

At 3-0 Castle introduced Ross Collins for Robbie Nightingale and young debutant George Powell for Ryan Wharton but the flow of pressure didn’t ease up. A strike from Hammond was turned round for a corner and from another set play Theobald rose highest to head home Royston’s fourth.

Still the action continued and the Crows had good opportunities to increase their lead. Firstly Stuart Bridges rattled the bar and then Hammond squeezed past two defenders only to see keeper Ben Heath somehow keep the ball out of the gaping net.

The question still remains whether the Crows can add the consistency they need to challenge for the title but on their day they are capable of beating anybody and today was clearly one of those days.
