Royston Town Vets 3 Buntingford Town Vets 1
Royston Town Vets were good value for their 3-1 win over old rivals Buntingford Town Vets in an entertaining match at Garden Walk.
The absence of a number of regulars gave an opportunity for Chris Geldart and Ben Bowles to play their first games of the season and for Mark Nunn to make his debut.
Town dominated the game in the first 20 minutes but failed to convert their supremacy into goals and it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play when a cross-field pass from Stuart Snowden was intercepted and a Buntingford forward took advantage to slot the ball past 'keeper Simon Dobson.
Town responded almost immediately when Geldart latched onto a cross from the left touchline from Geoff Pinner and fired a shot past the visitors' 'keeper to give Town a deserved equaliser. The Buntingford 'keeper and the frame of the goal denied Town but after a scramble on the goal-line a defender put the ball the in the net for an o.g. to give Town the lead.
The Buntingford 'keeper continued to thwart the attempts on goal with a string of fine saves but midway through the second half Snowden made up for his earlier mistake with an unstoppable shot rifled into the roof of the net to complete the scoring.
The standout performances for Town came from Paul Gibson in midfield and Paddy Coughlin at right back.
