Not Our Usual Standards – But a Win!

A win is a win!!

However it comes I suppose! Our fantastic performance against Farnborough for example netted us three points just as tonight but with these extremely talented lads our showing tonight was well below our levels we have regularly reached!

An honest bunch were fully aware of this and the dressing room reflected that after the game.

We started like a house on fire and created chances galore in the first few minutes then for some inexplicable reason we took too long on the ball and from then on produced very little. We did go ahead from yet another goal from Scott Bridges and my hope after was that we would settle and play like we know we can.

For whatever reason we toiled, getting in really good positions but not having the final bit of quality needed.

The lads in general have made me very proud of their previous encounters. Regularly showing their talents and not only picking up victories but doing it in a style befitting their very high standards. At this point I have to take my angry head off and calm down to reflect that we still won and the push for the title is still well on course.

I can only think this season of three performances that didn’t “Hit the heights” and we lost ALL of them so I suppose we take the win and move on!

Onto Saturday and a tricky match against lowly Aylesbury. They have picked up recently and we are told are very physical and on the back of an excellent win at Beaconsfield will be hopeful they can push on. Our job is to match them in all physical aspects as well as attitude and make sure our superior technical ability will edge the tie!

At the end of the day our below par performance tonight might just be the catalyst to push on again. Our last “Poor showing” against Kidlington produced a fantastic response from the squad and we went on this great run. Our aim is to repeat that and hopefully win enough matches to get where we want.

Cheers,
SC
