Onwards…..
Hi.
Been a while since a report/blog from yours truly but due to our lovely weather this Winter the amount of matches that have been called off has been ridiculous!
We have tried to tick over as best we can, training when we could but never ideal for all teams not just us.
We went into the Kettering match not previously played the Saturday before where as our opponents did, getting a resounding victory against Stratford Town by 4 goals to nil. Whilst it meant us being fresh, this time of the season it’s about playing and achieving a momentum especially when winning.
We still had suspensions over us with both Sam G and John F missing as well as Jamie Grey who is still side lined by a hip flexor injury. A little under-strength but a belief that has been constant throughout the campaign.
We chose to go a bit ” Bigger” up top with Adam Murray taking the Centre forwards role rather than his more accomplished Centre half position. A gamble some might say but in my opinion Adam is such a “Handful” to play against that wherever he plays he will be effective!
Within two minutes the gamble had paid off, some great work from Sam Cochran and Scott Bridges led to their centre half, weakly heading back to their goalkeeper and there was Muzzer to ,first touch of the ball put us in front!!
The lads didn’t stop there and apart from dangerous set plays from Kettering we had them on the ropes, we were creating chances right, left and centre and had we been 3-0 up at half time, there could not been any complaints from our opposition.
Unfortunately that’s as good as the evening got for us, In fairness to Kettering they were extremely dangerous from set plays and that was exactly how they got themselves back level. Disappointing from our perspective, we haven’t conceded many from corners up to last night but that part of the teams game wasn’t up to standard and boy did they make us pay.
Obviously the main talking point for us was the sending off of Sam Corcoran, when we were still firmly in the game. I have my views on not only the incident but the whole evening but for the sake of me not getting into trouble I will hold these views in. I will only say that I really felt for Sam. He has worked so hard at his game and is fully aware that previous sending off’s have put him “On guard” to future actions. Since the Braintree match there has been a level of control in his game and I fully applaud him for that!
Onwards and upwards though, another “Kick in the teeth” for us but to come back on Saturday is the order of the day from me and my staff!
Cheers,
Steve C
