ROYSTON TOWN FC v COALVILLE TOWN FC
Saturday 24th August 2019
The battle of the birds ended in a draw, as the Crows were unable to capitalise on having an extra man advantage for the last 25 minutes.
It was the Crows who took the lead at the end of a largely forgettable first half. The architect of the goal was Claudio Ofosu, who had troubled the Ravens with his pace throughout the opening 45 minutes. Another probing run saw him lay off the ball to Brandon Adams, whose cross-shot was turned away by the Coalville keeper, straight to Matt Bateman who tapped in from 2 yards out.
The second half started quietly but sprung to life in the 57th minute as Dan Brathwaite hauled down Kairo Mitchell in the penalty area after he had latched onto an excellent, early dropkick from keeper Saul Deeney. Mitchell picked himself up and scored the penalty, with what turned out to be Coalville’s only effort on target.
This sparked Royston into life, as they enjoyed their best spell of the game, with the best effort seeing Adams have a header tipped over by Deeney. The continued pressure told on the home defence, as Stuart Pierpoint saw red for a second bookable offence in the 64th minute.
The red card seemed to halt the Crows momentum as Royston struggled to create any chances against the 10 men, a penalty shout for handball being the closest they came to gaining a winner.
