CROWS BLOG: A SOLID WIN

CROWS BLOG: A SOLID WIN

Hi guys.

Reporting on Bank Holiday Monday’s win over Bedford Town, it was a good solid win. Not the most spectacular of victories but 3 points all the same – which we certainly needed.

Once again, we started brightly –  with us giving Kian Harness his full league debut and Adam Murray returning up top with Matt Bateman we looked strong in the forward areas. This certainly proved to be the case with us getting in front early on with an excellent strike by Matt.

I thought that the early goal we would mean that we’d ‘grow’ in confidence but it didn’t quite happen. We gave our hosts a chance to get back into things but at the same time, we were a lot more secure at the back, especially with the reintroduction of Ronnie Henry who I thought organised us that bit more to deter any equaliser.

I feel that we need to have a bit more ‘arrogance’ and belief in our own ability and keep possession that bit better! The boys definitely have it in them and I’m sure when we fully click it will come. In the meantime, we need to ensure that we limit any goal-scoring opportunities for our opponents to an absolute minimum.

I thought we were superb defensively on Monday. Carl Mensah looked back to his usual self and as previously stated Ronnie was as secure and solid as ever. Add in the good displays of Joel Nakatani-Brown and Jephte Tanga and we seemed very hard to score against.

Now we need to find the icing on the cake – our forward play and creativity to score more and create more chances. It will come, the lads have the ability they just need to believe in their own quality. We will then gain confidence and will be more ‘free flowing’ with our football.

The signs are positive but let’s not get carried away too quickly. We know that, even at this early stage, if we perform then we can match the more successful teams in our league at the moment such as Leiston, Coalville and Nuneaton. All of them are flying high at the moment but in general,  bar Nuneaton, we’ve competed and made a good show to possibly nick the 3 points instead of the 1.

Fine margins at the moment and they will need work on but definitely a reason to be hopeful rather than negative. And let’s not forget the horrendous injury list we currently have:  James Brighton, Isa Rotimi, Ed Asafu-Adjaye, Jay Rolfe, Spyros Mentis and Dan Green. All are recognised 1st team players and so the fact that we are still competing, all be it inconsistently, probably speaks for itself.

Cheers
