CROWS BLOG: THE YOUNG ONES DONE US PROUD!

Hi all,

Wow, what a night Tuesday was!

We went into the Herts Senior Cup tie against Ware facing a real dilemma in selection. Do we play a full-strength team and gamble on injuries and tiredness? Or do we go with an ‘under-strength’ team and rest some recognised 1st team player?
We decided to go for the latter and credit to the teamthat was selected they were superb to a player!

Ollie Williams, Lewis Williams, Louie Tigwell, Taylor Keely, Fred Brown, Frankie Ciuffa, Kian Harness, Jack Green – everyone of these lads performed unbelievably well!

Alongside those boys Dan Newton, Dan Green, Joel Nakatani-Brown, Jarid Robson, Max Bustamante and, lastly but by no means least our 1st team coach Lewis Endacott made up a ‘makeshift’ team. I can honestly say that I was so proud of how they all applied themselves.

As you know, I always like to be honest with our boys and, although very obvious,  I spoke to the lads that have been left out recently and challenged them to force their way into a strong squad!  They certainly did this, and my hope now is that they grow from this experience and start to believe that they are equals to the more experienced players.

Playing such a makeshift side there’s always the chance that the game could have gone wrong and it very nearly did. We got off to a great start by going 2-0 up very early on and the scoreline stayed that way until halftime. At the break the boys got the praise they quite rightly deserved but straight after the restart they conceded and then a dubious penalty was awarded against us and all of a sudden the tie was 2-2.

Honestly, I was still thinking of telling the lads afterwards ‘well done’ and that maybe they had just run out of steam. And then to make things even worse Ware went ahead … and although I was disappointed, I thought, that the boys had at least made a game of it! But credit to the boys, they were having none of it.  Not only did they equalise but they then went on to regain the lead and then they extended it to make it 5-3! An amazing achievement!  Yes, we did then concede another but they held on for an incredible 5-4 victory. Full credit goes to the boys, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

The attitude they showed on Tuesday night is one that we want running throughout the club from the u18s, the u23s, the First Team and through to the Women’s side!

Long may it continue!

Well done lads!!

Cheers,

Steve C
