TOM’S WEEKEND PREVIEW – Sept 2nd – 3rd

Hi and welcome to this weekend preview with Royston Town FC, Royston Town Women and Royston Town U23’s. Finally a weekend where all our senior sides play this weekend!

First up it’s FA Cup weekend with Royston Town FC with another Hertfordshire / A10  derby this time against Cheshunt FC.

This will be our first ever game against Cheshunt FC in the FA Cup, we have played Cheshunt in many other competitions such as the Herts Charity Cup, Herts Senior Cup, the Cheshunt Community Cup which we won, pre season friendlies and of course league matches. Our last league meeting was in the 1993/94 season in the Isthmian League.

What league positions are the clubs in?

Royston are 8th in the Southern Premier Central League with 10 points out of 6 games while Cheshunt are in 17th place in the Isthmian League Premier Division with 4 points out of 5 games.

What are both of the clubs best ever FA Cup run?

Both clubs have only reached the 4th Qualifying round stage of the FA Cup.. Cheshunt have reached that stage 5 times, 1925/26, 1958/59, 1966/67, 1970/71 and 1977/78. While Royston have only reached the 4th Qualifying Round once back in the 2019/20 season. An interesting fact about Royston’s best ever FA Cup run from the 2019/20 season was at this stage 4 years ago they beat Rothwell Corinthians 7-2 not only is this Royston’s best ever score line in their FA Cup history. The U23’s will be playing them on Saturday as well but in a league match.

We hope to see many people get down to Garden Walk on Saturday in the best club cup competition in the world especially it being a local game!

 

After 2 weeks away with Sunday 20th August matches being postponed due to the Women’s World Cup Final, and with 27th August being a blank weekend Royston Town Women are finally back also being an A10 match away at Haringey Borough Women.

 

Haringey Borough Women got a 1-1 draw at home against Luton Town Women while Royston Town Women lost on the road 4-3 at Bowers & Pitsea Women. Another tough match in store but hopefully we can bring a point or three back up the A10 to Royston.

Also Haringey is part of the ULEZ (ULTRA LOW EMISSION ZONE) make sure you know whether your car meets ULEZ requirements or you will be CHARGED to use the zone £12.50. This week the ULEZ zone has expanded.

There was also no game for the U23’s last weekend as it was FA Vase weekend. They now return to league action as they travel up to Northamptonshire to take on Rothwell Corinthians in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One.

Rothwell Corinthians will be looking to put last week behind them as they lost 9-1 at Real Bedford in the FA Vase.
