TOM’S WEEKEND PREVIEW – 6th & 7th JANUARY 2024

Hi and welcome to this weekend’s preview with Royston Town FC and Royston Town Women.

After a week off I’m back again with the weekend preview, the first of 2024 and first up is Royston Town FC who host their first game of 2024 with the visit of AFC Sudbury who travel down from Suffolk.

Our last meeting was in a league encounter which ended in a 1-1 draw with James Brighton’s powerful free kick hitting the top left hand corner. However in the last minute of the game AFC Sudbury had a final say when former Crows player Joe Neal got the goal.

Both clubs have had a good festive period with both Royston and AFC Sudbury picking up 10 points out of a possible 18. Both us and AFC Sudbury started 2024 with by getting wins on New Year’s Day with us getting a victory at Victory Road against Leiston which was our first win against them while AFC Sudbury picked up a solid three points against promotion-chasing Needham Market. This will be AFC Sudbury’s first-ever visit to Garden Walk. Also returning to Garden Walk in the opposition dugout is former Royston Town manager Steve Castle.

Both teams were pushing for a win however the tie finished 1-1 and went straight to penalties and credit, where credit is due to Needham Market’s keeper Evie McKane who made two penalty saves in a row to make Needham Market advance.
