WHO’S NEW? Meet the new teams that Royston Town Women FC will be playing this year

With Real Bedford Women, AFC Dunstable Women and King’s Lynn Town Women leaving the division alongside Barking Women being transferred to the London & South East Regional Women’s League, the division had to require four teams.

We wish the clubs good luck for the upcoming season.

The new clubs are:

Cambridge City Women

Nickname: The Lilywhites

Ground: The New Croft

Address: Chalkstone Road, Haverhill, CB9 0AW

Head to Head Record: Played 4  Won 0 / Drawn 2 / Lost 2

After spending years in the Women’s National League, Cambridge City Women are back in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League. During their time Royston Town Women played them losing twice at home and drawing away, they will probably groundshare with Haverhill Rovers whilst the new ground in Sawston is still taking shape. Their former ground was at Trinity Road College where we drew 3-3 with a Becky Shephard brace and Sammy Tinsley goal and a 4-4 draw with Teonie Peyton, Danielle Carty and a Jo Rutherford brace both in league encounters.

Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers Women FC

Nickname: The Dussy

Year Founded: 2020

Ground: The Nest

Address: Holt Road, Horsford, Norwich, NR10 3AQ

Head to Head Record: Never played each other before!

Dussindale & Helledson Rovers are one of the newer clubs around being formed in May 2020 like the First Team after a merger between Dussindale Rovers and Hellesdon during which time Hellesdon were playing in the Anglian Combination while Dussindale Rovers played Sunday League Football and didn’t join the Anglian Combination till 2017, which was 5 levels below the Hellesdon first team and the same level as their reserve side. Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers play at the state of the art facility at the Nest in Horsford, Norwich which is a facility hired by Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, we look forward to playing there and welcoming their supporters to our ground. Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers achieved promotion to the Premier Division after back to back promotion from the Norfolk & Girls League and Eastern Region Women’s League Division One North.

Enfield Town Ladies

Nickname: The Towners

Year Founded: 1985

Ground: Dave Bryant Stadium or Queen Elizabeth II Stadium

Address: Donkey Lane, Enfield, EN1 3PL

Head to Head Record: Played 2 Won 0 / Drawn 0 / Lost 2

With Barking Women being transferred to the London & South East Regional Women’s Football League the club swapped leagues with Enfield Town Women. This will be the first time we will play Enfield Town in a competitive match also with the 2 encounters were pre season friendlies. Enfield Town Women were formed in 1985 which may confuse people as Enfield Town Men’s First team was formed in 2001 as the first ever supporter owned club, Enfield Town Women linked up with them in 2003. Enfield Town Ladies started off as Merryhill Midgets which was a name taken from a primary school that founder members attended and when some girls wanted to play football and parents helping them in their wish, the club only attended 5-a-side tournaments till the club grew in size, the club had many name changes till 2003.

Watford Ladies Development

Year Founded: 1970

Ground: The Hive

Address: The Hive, Camrose Avenue, London, HA8 6AG

Head to Head Record: Played 3 Won 2 / Drawn 1 / Lost 0

The club was formed in 1970 after demands that Watford has it’s own Women’s team, the club was formed as Supporters Ladies Club then it changed to Willy Walker Watford Wonders after manager Doug Hewish and trainers John Williams and Mike Walker who both played for Watford FC. In 1997 the club merged with Watford Town Girls then in the 2018/19 season the club decided to become independent after Watford Men chose to not apply for a licence for the Women’s section. Watford Ladies Development won promotion after clinching the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One South.
