TOM’S WEEKEND PREVIEW – Easter Weekend
Hi and welcome to this Easter Weekend weekend preview with Royston Town FC and Royston Town Reserves.
On Saturday, Royston Town make the trip to Northamptonshire to take on Kettering Town in the Southern League Premier Central for their penultimate away game of the season, kick-off 3pm. Royston have yet to pick up a point at Kettering, however Kettering can’t afford to drop points as they are still chasing promotion sitting in 2nd place behind Bedford Town who lead the way by 3 points. Our last meeting was a 1-0 victory for Royston Town back in September with Harvey Beckett scoring our goal with both clubs going down to 10 men with Josh Dawadou getting sent off for Royston while Kettering’s goalkeeper Dan Jezeph getting sent off. Kettering are known to not only be the FA Cup top goal scorers on 923 goals, nine ahead of Spurs. But also the first ever club in Britain to have shirt sponsors in 1976 sponsored by local Tyre company Kettering Tyres. James Brighton played for Kettering while former Royston player Johnny Edwards plays for Kettering.

Then a quick turnaround as on Easter Monday, Royston Town return to their final home league match of the season against local rivals St Ives Town from Cambridgeshire. PLEASE NOTE IT IS A 1pm kick-off. Like Kettering this season Royston beat St Ives Town also 1-0 in the league on Boxing Day, when former St Ives player Tyrone Baker scored our goal. Another thing like Kettering Town, St Ives Town will also need three points as they look to survive another season at Step 3 football with only 2 points separated by 14th – 19th place in the table. St Ives are only a point clear of the final drop zone. Our visitors picked up a massive win last weekend at play off chasing Harborough Town.
