Royston continued to build on their recent excellent team performances with a well deserved point against second in the league Hutton at Garden Walk on Sunday. Speaking after the game Town’s Manager Steve Buchannan said “Before the kick off I’d have taken the point but I’m now disappointed we didn’t take all three – our performance certainly merited it”.
The hosts started brightly and after a sweeping move down the right Marie Miller delivered a great cross which Sharon Pinner just failed to steer in to the net. Town continued to keep up the pressure and after an exchange of passes between Eve Brindle and Lucy Davidson, striker Jenny Probert ran onto the return pass and was then hacked down in the area but the referee waved away the appeal for a penalty.
Playing against the wind in the second half the hosts expected to be under more pressure but if anything they played just as well if not better and continued to make chances.
In probably the best move of the game Stacey Hassan teed-up Probert whose powerful shot just failed to hit the target. In the dying minutes another slick passing movement started by Leanne Buchannan saw Hassan forced Hutton’s goalkeeper to make a last ditch save.
On this coming Sunday (13 Feb) Royston face Haverhill Rovers at Garden Walk in the quarter final of the League Plate Competition, kick off 2pm.
