Having not had any action for 2 weeks the under 16s made light work of a potentially tricky looking game with their highest goal count of the season.
Jacob Leighton hit the post from a close range volley in the very first minute but by the half way mark of the first half there was no eveidence of the goal avalanche to follow. In fact the visitors could have been two goals up with keeper Connor Long making one great stop with his legs after a forward had broken clear and on a second occasion depite being well lobbed Long recovered to scramble the ball off the line with a last ditch dive.
The opening goal did not come until the 22nd minute. A defender inexpicably handled in the area and Mitchell Wooding blasted his spot kick straight down the middle of the goal. Royston went onto score another six times before half time with some fine footballing moves and equally clinical finishing. Owen Bentley and Jordan Hall both finished good moves with firm strikes into the corner, Louis Townsend headed a free kick in from ten yards and Jacob Leighton scored a fine eight minute hat trick to have the game wrapped up by half time.
Sawbridgeworth created a handfull of decent chances in the second half with a trio of efforts just off target and a penalty kick of their own that was blasted wastefully high and wide. Royston always looked likely to add to their tally and further goals from Louis Townsend, Ellis King, Jake Booth and a fourth for Jacob Leighton completed the rout with the visitors having a poor day rounded off with a late sending off for a vicious tackle in frustration.
