Match | Royston Town v Somersham Town |
Competition | Ridgeons Youth League: West Division |
Result | Drew 4-4 |
Royston Scorers | Bond, Burr, Booth, Duffin |
Wednesday night's youth team game was full of action packed viewing and a late surge from the hosts saw them gain a point in a game they nearly threw away completely.
The first half was fairly even with Royston creating the better chances but unable to test the visiting keeper. Somersham took the lead mid way through the half from a close range effort bur Royston finished the half very strongly and scored twice in the last five minutes. Daniel Bond raced clear to equalise and then Elliott Burr played a one two with George Duffin to convert from close range.
Unfortunately Royston lacked drive in the opening period of the second half and poor mistakes allowed the visitors to galvanise their performance and race into a 4-2 lead.
A change of formation mid way through the half helped Royston gain some impetus and when Jake Booth scored with ten minutes reamining with a good half volley from 16 yards The young Crows piled on late pressure.
This was rewarded when George Duffin fired in angled drive from ten yards and a late Ellis King effort and a Jake Booth header nearly won it for Royston with the visitors desperately hanging on and glad to hear the final whistle
