After recent disappointing results Royston could have gone into this game with their heads down, but not this team. Royston have showed time and time again just how resilient they are. The tactics for this game was to frustrate Fairlands and reduce their amount of time and space. Something Royston did extremely well, but not only did they defend well but they also had the lion share of the chances. George W played as a lone striker up front and he battled non-stop for the entire game and the midfield of Jamie O, Tom McG, Bradley C, Jordan H and later Harry B played very compact. Add Troy M, playing in his old holding midfielder position and the back four of Owen R, Josh T, Conor E, and Cameron S, the latter playing the whole game in defence for first time, to the team and Royston restricted Fairlands to less than a handful of chances. Fairlands did however score first with good play in the middle of the park with a through ball to Alfie who turned quickly in the box a shot just past Jack Y in the Royston goal. Jack Y then made amends when Fairlands took a corner and from a melee two yards from the goal Jack Y flung himself at the feet of the striker to deny him a certain goal. Royston showed just how up for this game when Captain Josh T sent in a perfect free kick to see Tom McG rise like a salmon to flick the ball into the top left hand corner giving the host keeper no chance. The game became a midfield battle but Fairlands did create one more chance when a good ball from the right was expertly controlled on the chest of Alfie and he volleyed the ball goal wards only to see Young, once again fling himself to his left and tip it around the post. Man of the match was voted to THE TEAM as everyone contributed to an even, exciting game of football.
