Match | Royston Town Reserves v Tring Athletic Reserves |
Competition | Suburban League: North Division |
Result | Won 3-2 |
Royston Scorers | Skeggs, Stratton, Malins |
Town's second string started their new campaign with a win at home on Saturday.
Royston were missing some key players but set about the task ahead in fine style and ROGER SKEGGS opened the scoring when passed the ball into Tring’s net following a slide rule pass from debutant JAMIE STEELE.
The hardworking ROBERT GWYNNE was provider for both of the next two goals with his pin point crossing. The first was a near post header, duly despatched by another debutant, TYRELL STRATTON and the second, this time to the far post, was finished by a TOMMY MALINS diving header.
With the game seemingly over, the 2nd period saw Town fail to maintain their earlier momentum and some enforced changes only seemed to disrupt things further.
Skipper MIKE DEBNAM, MATTY BRENNAN and TOMMY MALINS all went close but with ten minutes to go it was Tring Athletic who pulled one back after the home team surrendered midfield possession far too cheaply.
A brief panic arose when STUART JACKSON put through his own net with just minutes to go, but Royston saw the game out to take their first three Suburban League points of the season.
