Cambridge United Friendly Off
The Board of RTFC has today taken the decision to call off the pre-season friendly against Cambridge United, which was scheduled for next Tuesday 16th July. During the closed season the Club has worked tirelessly on preparing a playing surface which is capable of taking the wear and tear of another exacting season. Unfortunately, a combination of poor growing conditions and irrigation problems have conspired against the implementation of our plans. As a result we were left with no option but to invest in returfing over 1,000 square metres of the surface in the areas where the seeding had failed. However we have been advised that the pitch is unlikely to be playable by next Tuesday and rather than gambling on this not being the case we have taken the decision not to risk the safety of both sets of players. This has been an extremely difficult decision to make but we do feel that it is the correct decision and in the longer term interests of RTFC.
We shall continue to work on the pitch to ensure it is in the best possible condition to start the new season and we will be discussing with Cambridge United the options to rearrange the game.
