Match | St Albans City v Royston Town |
Competition | Pre-Season Friendly |
Result | Drew 1-1 |
Royston Scorer | Hammond |
The Crows got a more than decent work out in their first pre-season outting against higher grade opposition. City had already played games in their pre-season campaign and were sharp and creative throughout the game but the Royston squad battled hard in the toiling hot weather conditions and Paul Attfield would have got much out of the game.
A number of new players were on show combined with a number being missing due to holiday commitments. City had much of the ball in the first half with The Crows looking particularly dangerous on a number of occaions on the counter attack. Two such attacks saw both Ryan Lockett and Adie Cambridge strike the crossbar. City went close on a couple of occasions as they put good pressure on gola but never tested new keeper George Lawton.
The hosts opened the scoring just before half time. A couple of weak tackles resulted in a cross being turned home from close range.
Both sides made half time changes and The Crows were level within two minutes of the restart. Lockett's corner was headed back across goal by Luke Robins with Craig Hammond converting from close range.
The game opened up into a fine spectacle with bth teams looking lively going forward. George Lawton made one excellent point blank save and at the other end both Ryan Lockett and Kaan Fehmi brought fine saves from the home keeper.
The only dampener on the evening was a late injury to striker Kaan Fehmi, which has now been diagnosed as a broken metartarsal and he will miss the next 6-8 weeks whilst on the road to recovery
