Royston Town Vets returned to action after an enforced 3 week break with a daunting visit in the second round of the Herts F.A. Veterans Cup to Bushey Sports Club Vets – the current holders of the trophy. The hosts, one of the best teams ever faced by Town Vets, fielded a side packed with ex Football League players and not surprisingly ran out comfortable winners.
Bushey opened the scoring after 15 minutes and quickly added a second. Town then created a couple of chances but Majic was closed down before getting his shot away and Ben Bowles (on debut) shot wide.
Bushey increased their lead early in the second half with a deflected shot that 'keeper Simon Dobson got a hand to but could not prevent looping into the net. Dobson then made a series of brilliant saves but could do nothing with two own goals off retreating Town defenders that left him stranded. A solo effort by a Bushey forward rounded off the scoring.
