Third division Symonds Green gave second division Celtic a tough match in this U16 League Cup tie.
Celtic looked a bit rusty after another layoff the previous weekend and although they had the greater part of the play they could not carve out any clear cut chances nor could their opponents when they broke forward. It was much the same story in the second half though Celtic had a real scare when the visitors worked an opening only for a forward to stray offside before putting the ball into the net.
The 0-0 score after 80 minutes was a fair reflection of play but in the first period of extra time Celtic began to exert themselves. They forced a couple of saves from the Symonds Green keeper and man-of-the-match Sam R began to dominate aerial battles. In the second half of extra time Danny got to a through ball just before the keeper and slipped it past him to give Celtic the lead. Then a few minutes later Troy blasted home a penalty after a shirt pull in the area to finally break the spirit of the visitors.
