A Great Leap Forward
Hi there.
A weird night at Garden Walk tonight!
Ultimately disappointment in being beaten on penalties against a strong Bishop’s Stortford team but overall a massive boost for our lads in as much us taking a team from two steps higher all the way.
We found ourselves 1-0 down straightaway after a opportunistic effort by their midfielder, catching Ben Watson slightly off his line and the ball going in!!
No blame whatsoever towards Ben who was playing his first senior game for us. He showed a great amount of character by performing admirably for the rest of the match, pulling off a couple of top class saves!!
After the initial act we really took the game to them and could and should have been at least level after half an hour played.
Good, quick, decisive play eventually paid its reward with Gary Cohen netting for the second time in two games. Much deserved and into the second half believing we could go one better!
It’s a really awkward one having a “Competitive” game in between a pre-season period where game time for all is still a priority. Ryan Ingrey came on for Nathan Frater, one to get Ryan minutes and also that Nathan had played a full 90 on Saturday, so was always going to be withdrawn.
Same went for the second sub in Della on for Spyros.
Full respect goes to Joe! I have told him in my opinion he’s not quite there fitness-wise. No complaints from him just two very solid performances, proving his worth and also showing amazing attitude!!
We were on top but a long throw from their left back resulted in a scrappy goal and unbelievably we were down once more.
If we are learning anything from this group it must be the resilience they now are showing. Ryan Ingrey scored a fantastic goal to draw us level. So pleased for him!
To summarise in my opinion we have made a great leap forward tonight. Although being beaten, for the second match in a row we have competed and been the better team against higher opposition!
On to the O’s on Friday.
Yet again a team I know reasonably well!
Ha ha! Hopefully they will bring a strong team up and give us a test once more.
Cheers,
SC
