A Nervy Last 10 Minutes
The run keeps going! For me very grateful after a comeback from Egham to recover from a 3-0 score line to a nervy 3-2. Giving all of us a tense last 10 minutes to ensure 3 points.
On reflection of the match I commented to Chris after the game that I should have been more careful with our subs, probably not be so hasty in changing things so quickly! A lesson learned from me although done for all the right reasons.
Thankfully we got away with it today but a bit wiser from now on from me.
The start from the lads was as good as it has been all season. We started with a good tempo and “Stretched” the game very quickly, showing we meant business from the off!
A great free kick on our right gave Scott Bridges the opportunity to extend his goal tally which he dispatched perfectly to put us 1-0 up. Egham produced some exciting forward play of their own and if not for the excellent Joe Welch could have easily levelled.
We still remained the team with the upper hand and created several half chances but at half time although pleased a game was still there to win for both teams.
The 2nd half started brightly for us and with us pushing for a second it came all be it from an unusual source in Gus Scott-Morriss.
2-0 quickly became 3-0 after Adam got upended to gain us a penalty which Scott scored convincingly.
So 3-0. Fair play to our visitors in staying in the game, many other teams may have “Sacked it” but they kept going and got themselves well back into the match.
We could have managed the game in the latter stages better but enough of the negative. ALL the boys have been brilliant over the last few weeks. The squad have shown real quality on regular occasions. Our job now is to carry it on, keep our standards to a high level and just take one game at a time.
Cheers
