A Pleasing Performance

Hi there.

A good night had for us last night at Garden Walk beating a team from a higher league in Hitchin Town in the League Cup.

Hitchin came with a strong but probably not full strength team to contest the tie. I do know from chatting to their staff that they were extremely disappointed to lose and had high praise for ourselves.

We went with a similar set up to Saturday, with a couple of changes in Simon Thomas coming in for John Frendo and Stu Bridges coming in for Ryan Frater. No reflection on the lads”rested” just to keep them fresh if needed this coming Saturday.

I felt the boys who did well on Saturday deserved to stay in and although “Regular” first team players available, they would have to be patient and accept a subs role.

In fairness all the lads understood, not happy as I accept but fully behind the team in general.

The match itself was pretty even although our pressing did give us the edge and we created more than our opponents in the first half. Towards the end of that half we had a breakaway, led by the superb Martell Powell bring the ball some 40 yards before cutting inside to pass to Josh Castiglione who caught he’s shot accurately to find the bottom left hand corner of the goal to put us 1-0 up.

Into halftime with a deserved lead but not resting on anything knowing that score line will infuriate the visitors and a response was a definite.

Hitchin started slightly better than us but what pressure was dealt with and our all important “Clean sheet” was kept.

Very pleasing and especially after the disappointing result last Tuesday where we all let ourselves down. To react in the manner they have is a fantastic testament to them all. Well done boys. Now to carry it on!

Cheers,
SC!!
