Chances Galore
Hi all!
A draw to report on this weekend!!
We played Uxbridge who were no mugs, they went with the slope/wind in the first half. For some reason we seemed to be kicking the ball long all the time and didn’t get the ball down to play. Of course this made it very hard for our front lads to get any real momentum and the half was poor by our standards! We could have suffered it a little bit easier if we hadn’t conceded in the last minute of the half. A very good corner was swung in to our goal and with everyone missing it bar their player on the far post, we found ourselves 1-0 behind.
OK, so into the half time break and 1-0 down, not the worst result considering they had most things in their favour and now it was our turn to exploit the conditions!
We got about the second half very well in terms of chances and within five minutes we had created several efforts, all of which were missed, not saved but missed! A sense of anxiety was creeping in but the opportunities were still coming, as more were missed the anxiety level was increasing. It’s so hard to keep a calm head when goal scoring efforts are still being missed. Eventually we did put the ball in the back of the net with Liam Mc Devitt nodding in at the far post from a Danny May cross.
With a full 20-25 mins football still to play and now to try and get the winner. We juggled it about a bit, bringing Ryan Towner and Ryan Ingrey into the fold. Both with loads of energy to try to get the elusive finish. In all we created 16 chance in the second half, scoring 1 goal. For lads of the ability we have that is simply not good enough! In fairness to Uxbridge they could have nicked all three points if it wasn’t for a double save made by Ron, so in all a draw, probably a fair result. The old adage of “Goals Changing Games” was never so true in this encounter but as I said to our lads after the game, two wins from the next two matches makes this week’s work look impressive!
On to Tuesdays local derby V Barton Rovers. Always a hard game. We will have to be at our competitive best to gain a result there and then Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday, yet again arguably the biggest team in our League so another tough contest is ahead.
The players are aware there are places up for grabs in the team, I very rarely change winning teams so the message is get in, win and stay in. The squad is reasonably well balanced, we have a few new faces in Della and Dobbo as well as Erkan and Mayesey so competition is strong but healthy.
I for one will try to bring a sense of positivity to the group, we are a good team and as long as these chances are being made we just need to finish more of them!
Hopefully starting Tuesday night!!!
Cheers,
SC
