Dust Ourselves Off & Go Again

A really bad night to try to report on with us losing to a hard working Kings Langley team but in truth a team we should be beating to get to where we want to be.

To say I’m “Gutted” is an understatement! For me we weren’t “At it” from the start and never really got going.

Some would question my selection with omitting John Frendo from the start and not putting Adam Marriott in. John had to be disciplined in my opinion for his actions on Saturday. He faces a ban from this Saturday but as a club we felt he had to know that the sending off was not acceptable and we felt to include him would send the wrong message out.

Adam in my opinion has been poor of late by his own very high standards and I felt that Joe Hankins deserved an opportunity and our new loan signing from Stevenage Jamie Gray started to show his worth straight away.

By their inclusion the general message was to turn the opposition from the off and use the young legs that along with Rohdell all three had in abundance.

Although the first half conditions was not great we never got the ball into areas where they could excel.

Not great in the first half but at 0-0 we could accept it if we could use the conditions to our advantage in the second.

The half started better and we nearly got ourselves in front from the off with Jamie going close but then after that for all the possession in their half we didn’t trouble their goalkeeper at all!

Too much “Over playing” in my opinion, certainly not enough shots, not enough “Simple play” as in most games we kept on the front foot and clearly looked like the team most likely to create something in a game devoid of any real quality. As said too many mistakes on our part in front of goal, hardly any shots and always in fear of a sucker punch which duly came from them with 10 minutes of the match remaining.

Fair play to the opposition, they are fighting for their lives and they dispatched their goal with aplomb but from our point of view we have lost the game because of our deficiencies and not Kings Langley’s quality.

So what now?

We dust ourselves off and go again. It’s been a bad 4 days but I feel all the effort put in by everyone to date we are not going to fade away from these future fixtures. However hard it is to do we keep going!

I admit it will be extremely difficult to get us back into a contending position but until we can’t mathematically do it I want all of us to believe it’s possible.

The lads have received plenty of praise and quite rightly so. It now needs strong characters to pull us through. We have to play Slough twice and “If” we can get to a situation that on the last day of the season we need to go to theirs and get a result we would be delighted.

As said dust ourselves off and go again it’s the only thing we can do!!

Cheers,
SC
