End of Season Reflections
Hi to you all,
Thought I'd finish the season with a final blog.
Firstly thank you for all that came down to Garden Walk for our play-off game. As you know the result ended in us getting beaten on penalties by Barton Rovers, who went on to get beaten themselves in the final against Bedworth. Congratulations to Bedworth and all the best in the Southern League Premier.
For our part it was a very disappointing end to what was an unbelievably good run in to finish the season. It has certainly given all of our players the belief that we can go one better next season and automatically go up! It is a very hard ask because the one place for automatic promotion leaves very little margin for error over a long season. Fair play to Kettering for gaining that position, as frequently said, the league never lies and even though we ended in a superb second place, we lost 12 games and in my opinion you can't lose that many and expect to achieve success!
That's not taking anything away from our boys who performed generally very well with some exceptional displays, away at Daventry, Marlow, Barton away and Rugby both home and away were the highlights. Combined with some gritty 1-0's along the way, we kept ourselves always in and around the play-off spots. Unfortunately we had some disappointing shows also, including AFC Hayes and Bedford away as well as Uxbridge at home which ultimately cost us dear!
The fact that the AFC Hayes game was the last time we got beat in the league is the pleasing thing for me, with the response from all the squad.
To finish I would like to thank everyone involved at the club for all their efforts throughout the season. We really do have a very special club here and all of us should be very proud of it!!
Cheers, have a great summer
