Happy Christmas!!

Another League game another win but this was not as straight forward as I’ve made it sound. Going 1-0 down to claw ourselves in front to a 3-1 score line at halftime only to concede two goals to make it 3-3 then a superb finish by our debutant Rod Orlando-Young, then another by Rod who was very unselfishly set up by Ingers to make a 5-3 score line to rather “Flatter” us in what was accurately described by our Chairman as disjointed!!

The reason? Well if I knew that I think I would be a millionaire! I believe that however you prepare players at whatever level, after a stint of being underdogs in matches and arguably “Over-achieving” to go back into a level that we should dominate doesn’t often go to plan.

We started on the front foot and had several dangerous set plays but Ashford’s first meaningful attack resulted in them going 1-0 ahead. Us not getting close enough and letting a shot slide into the bottom left of our net.

The pleasing thing from my perspective is that a positive response ensued. Another fantastic set play and 1-1. Soon after a fantastic ball into the prolific John Frendo, 2-1. John added another before halftime 3-1 and probably all supporting the Crows thought we would go from strength to strength. It just didn’t happen. We seemed to not work quite as hard and conceded possession far too often. In fairness to our opposition, they didn’t give up and got two goals to equalise.

We were certainly on the ropes and although, not losing, after our recent exploits, I was fearful that our troops were going to run out of steam and lose our excellent winning run.

What came next was probably one of the best finishes seen at Garden Walk for some time. Rod Orlando-Young picked the ball up on the right hand side cut in and curled a fantastic left footed shot into the top left of their goal to put us back in front. Wow!! Amazing!

The last goal, as previously mentioned was a unselfish goal which killed the game in our favour but we certainly knew we had been in an extremely hard fought encounter.

Another debutant in Adam Watkins played and did well in midfield. Adam has left Bedford and has asked to come over to show his worth to us. He knows like Rod there are no promises and they will have to work hard to secure a starting berth. For me it creates more strength to what is already a very strong group. All good for the future.

Cheers and can I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Xmas and New Year! On behalf of the staff and players we are very grateful for your continued support. Please over the festive period bring friends/family to our games. Hopefully we can generate more of a following and the good times can carry into 2017!!
