Scouting Pays Dividends

Hi Everyone,

What a fantastic day was had by all of us that went down to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.

We went into the game as clear underdogs, with Wingate being a level above and also their pre-season performance against us gave us little optimism on the face of things!

Although that’s not how the team felt.

We knew we hadn’t performed how we should have against them earlier in the year and obviously have played a lot better in between the two games.

At this point it needs saying what a great job Chris Watters did with his recent scouting mission to Wingate last Tuesday. Chris came back with a plan to stifle their flowing play and we had an unusual training game last Thursday relaying this information onto the first team.

BOTH teams during the training game deserve praise. They all took the information on board so we went into the match fully prepared.

The game itself was played on one of the best surfaces in non league football. This old has-been was very jealous of the boys starting!

Full praise to our lads who executed our game plan to the letter and “Stifle” them. They had no other way to play and although we didn’t really play our high tempo pressing game we were patient and disciplined.

Our goals came from Rhys Hoenes via 2 missed penalties that Rhys followed up on.

Looking forward to the next round and hopefully either a home tie against a “Bigger” club or a winnable game v a small club.

We go into a Herts Senior Cup tie on Tuesday against Cheshunt. Strange how things work out, it’s another team we played pre-season. This time we won 5-1 but we will not that result effect us in any way. Still the same ” Professional approach, hopefully with a positive result at the end.

We are a squad and some are not getting sufficient minutes so they will get given them Tuesday. I hasten to add I don’t expect a dip in Quality because all these chaps are “First teamers ”

It’s all good at the moment, we had a loss last week but to react with such positivity is testament to the players.

Keep it going boys
