Through Thick & Thin

Hi.

Reporting in to talk about our opening League game of the season. Unfortunately not a good day!

After a very good display the week before at Cheshunt, we went with a similar back four/midfield. We had an enforced change in excluding Ryan Ingrey due to suspension. Gary Hart came in. Rob Mason who has done tremendously to progress as far as he has was in my opinion not quite ready to start and Luke Robins came in.

Before the game we were all confident of continuing where we left off last Saturday, maybe too confident because we never really got going. Very few moments of quality shown unlike previous performances.

They went ahead by our own sloppy play, letting in their centre forward who calmly slotted the ball past Ron. We got slightly better after that and our best period in the game came after half time where we were camped in their half until a hopeful ball up field by Uxbridge should have been dealt with effectively enough by our defenders but bullet in foot time again and a poorly hit ball back to our keeper resulted in a penalty to them, leaving us 2-0 down.

In the 85th min we eventually got the ball in the goal courtesy of Daniel Brathwaite, only to 5 minutes later concede another poor goal to end the game 3-1.

If we're honest with ourselves we didn't deserve anything from the game. You can't "Gift" goals away and expect to win football matches!

Unlikely results, first game of the season happens often. Look at Chelsea and Arsenal this weekend. It's about making a quick recovery and Tuesday's game against Barton Rovers is one where we want to put on a show and pick up maximum points!

Come on down and cheers us on?

Cheers,
SC
