TOM’S WEEKEND PREVIEW – April 6th

Hi and welcome to this weekends preview with Royston Town FC and Royston Town U23’s.

This Saturday, Royston Town are on the road again for their penultimate away game of the season when they travel to Suffolk to take on Needham Market FC in the Southern League Premier Central, 3pm kick-off. Needham Market are top of the table and can clinch the title should they beat us and Mickleover drop points against Stourbridge, Royston will be looking to spoil the party. Needham Market’s nickname is the Marketmen when in 1245 King Henry III granted Needham a Market charter which flourished for many years until the plague happened and ended trade by moving to Ipswich and nearby Stowmarket. There has also been many names for Needham which includes Nedeham, Nedham and Neidham. Needham Market moved to Bloomfields in 1996 where it was named after the late Derrick Bloomfield who was born in 1928 and was named in his honour after 50 years of service as a player, secretary and treasurer.
