Very Satisfying Performance

A really pleasing night at WGC tonight beating a Step 5 team 5-1 with a team full of youngsters emphasising the point we have a strong squad, capable of competing whichever eleven we put out.

For me it was as satisfying a result as the many we have had recently because not only the young lads but also the players not always getting full minutes performing to such a high level.

Resting a big number of regular 1st team lads was a risk but the players out on show tonight certainly did themselves no harm in securing their place in this highly talented squad.

A special mention to Chris Watters and Simon Thomas. Both have had their fair share of criticism from certain parties. Chris has had a unenviable task of playing whilst being an able assistant to me. He has had a foot injury and a shoulder problem that has delayed his return. He put himself forward to play tonight, not fully fit and showed quality that we could well need in the coming months!

Simon has had recently had to settle for a substitute role to John Frendo but not once have I had a moan or anything negative from him. He has been superb in his attitude and with his work rate tonight has shown everyone how much he wants to be part of the plans.

As for the “YoungUns” Luke Warner-Eely, Nathan Dimmock, Jordan and Liam Tring and last but not least Tom Canham, all have been involved with us and Waiting for an opportunity to impress. They all have done themselves proud tonight.

If you include Josh, Gus and Spyros that is eight lads who have come through the excellent College schemes that Chris and I run at Oaklands College.

I’m very proud of this as is Chris I’m sure.

Very positive vibes all around the place at the moment, long may it continue. For me competition for places is vital. The fact that everyone is looking over their shoulder seeing others perform is brilliant!! It means no one can rest on their previous performances and have to earn their right to stay in the team. I’m sure the lads accept this. It makes for a positive group!

Cheers
