We Didn’t Really Get Going
Hi there.
Trophy tie for us today against a Northwood team, struggling in the League but having the freedom of the cup with a nothing to lose attitude. Coming to us expecting a tough encounter.
That it was but from our perspective a very winnable game if we could get to our usual high performance levels.
We huffed and puffed but didn’t really get going. If I’m honest I felt the boys in general looked a bit weary and our usual pressing wasn’t as effective as it should have been.
To emphasise this point Northwood’s player had far too much room to attempt a shot. In fairness it was a great effort but preventable. It sailed in over Joe and we were 1-0 down. A little against the run of play but with only ourselves to blame.
We kept pushing and a nicely worked free kick got us level.
1-1 at halftime. We considered shaking it up a bit because as previously mentioned we looked as a team “Jaded”
In my opinion this is when we have to really concentrate on retaining the ball, not forcing play and slowly get back to dominating proceedings.
We changed the forward line due to an injury to Kaan with bringing Josh Castiglione on the left hand side, pushing Ingers on to his more familiar right side role.
Josh very quickly made an impact and a terrific run by him resulted in him scoring from inside of the box to get us 2-1 up.
Although far from being as fluent as previous we found ourselves in the lead and although not pretty should have seen the tie out.
A uncharacteristic mistake by the normally reliable Danny May led to their equaliser and now a replay for us at Northwood on Tuesday.
With a lot of our lads nursing niggles we will have to re-Group and go again.
Hoping for your support once again?
Cheers
