Castle Drops in on Reserves
Hi Guys,
Since the last Blog we haven't had a first team game, however the reserves had a home game versus Corinthian-Casuals which Ada had the services of several first team players who had for various reasons not had that much football. I crept up there with my two boys, Charlie and Harry, who brought their Cricket bat and ball! Not that football isn't their thing, but watching certainly isn't.
It was a very entertaining game. We went ahead with a typical Craig Hammond effort but due to a couple of defensive mistakes and good finishing on their part we found ourselves 2-1 behind. Typical of the set of lads here we never gave up and eventually levelled and then went in front. Several lads impressed me both regular reserve players and first team lads. Vital competitive minutes was the positive outcome for all our lads, so that was pleasing.
A special mention to Simon Dobson who at the last minute stepped in to go in goal when Ada had been let down. The man is incredible!! I for one am in awe of him! To just jump in and not let himself or the team down was fantastic! Well done Dobbo and thank you!!
As for the rest of the lads they had a weekend off. This may not be to everyone's liking especially as the reason was we were knocked out of the cup but third in the league is a reasonable place to be and a rest is sometimes as good as pushing bodies. We are training Tuesday and Thursday so will be prepared and hopefully sufficiently fresh to start the next part of our campaign. If we win our next 2 games we are back on track for our 'mini league' targets. 22 points was the goal for 10 league games (11 points from two sets of 5 games).
On the injury front Rob Mason has had his operation and I'm sure it won’t take him long before he can play, although Rob has taken part in hardly any pre-season so some hard sessions with Scott Taylor are in store for him. Luke Robins is having a nightmare getting his operation done. At the time of writing he still hasn't got a date. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
We are going to need as many fit bodies as possible for the whole season. There will be competition for places but no successful team as survived on eleven players. I feel for the lads not playing regularly but that's the nature of it especially if we can keep winning.
Here's to that.
