Roll On Tuesday

Hi there.

Sitting indoors on a Saturday evening digesting our 2-2 draw with Thurrock in the FA Cup. After all said and done a draw is not the worst result to come away with from a Thurrock side much the same level as ourselves, albeit in a different league.

We started very brightly and easily had the lion's share of the play. Our forwards were creating several chances and culminated in us going in front, Rhys Hoenes scoring after intercepting a wayward pass to the Thurrock keeper. He rounded him and put us one up. We should have kicked on and increased the scoreline but a hopeful ball into our half became an equaliser when a lack of concentration enabled Thurrock to score. For our part another"Soft" goal which we have got to eliminate!!

Our second was a similar goal to the first in as much Rhys cut out a sloppy pass by them to get himself into the box where he got up-ended to give us a penalty. It was expertly dispatched by Chris Watters and we went in at half time deservedly 2-1 up.

The message from me was to keep the performance level up and we felt a deciding third would come. We had one or two half chances and one effort that should have been put in. This time unfortunately Rhys had a heavy second touch when going round the keeper and the chance was gone.

Thurrock pushed forward as expected and yet another "Soft" goal in my opinion got them back level. The ball was put into our box and what I am really hot on with my defenders is to not let ball bounce and go and attack it! We didn't, the ball bounced and fell to one of their lads who finished very well but yet again from our perspective "Avoidable!".

So onto Tuesday where we start again. I feel if we can perform to a similar standard especially going forward we should have a good chance of winning. The lads all know that these goals conceded lately are completely of our own bad play. These must stop if we have any chance of progressing!!

On a lighter note it was nice to see two old team mates of mine in their manager Mark Stimson and his assistant Scott Barrett. Both have had great careers as players and management so I'm sure they will have a few tricks up their sleeves for the replay.

Roll on Tuesday!!

Cheers
