Competition | Pre-Season Friendly |
Result | Won 7-2 |
Royston Scorers | Beck(3), Young, Lawrence, Matt Stenden, O'Brien |
After drawing two blanks in their previous friendlies a mixed side of youth, reserve and first team players ran out convincig winners against Division One side Bedford FC on Thursday evening.
The visitors played some fluent football at times in the first half and took an early 3rd minute lead when Jason Beck hit a firm 25 yard low strike into the bottom corner. The same player beat the offside trap 20 minutes later to round the keeper and score and Ricky Young rounded off the first half scoring in the 41st minute with a ten yard volley from a right wing free kick.
More goals looked likely and Beck completed a pleasing individual hat trick early in the second half with another very composed goal after racing clear on goal.
Royston then began to lose defensive control of the game and for the remainder the game swung end to end with both teams looking likely to score. Bedford reduced the arrears with a quick double goal tally in a 60 second period before Rhys Lawrence restored some order outwitting both a defender and goalkeeper before rolling into an empty net.
In the latter stages strike partners Matt Standen and Dalton O'Brien both added to the final scoreline outcome with clinical finishes inside the area and whilst there werena few concerns for the Royston management the players put in another decent work shift and with 23 players being looked at in the two mid week games this week options look to be in good depth for Paul Attfield two weeks before the season commences.
