ROYSTON TOWN FC V ENFIELD TOWN FC
Saturday 28th October 2017
Royston recorded a comfortable victory against Enfield as they eased into the draw for the next round.
A swirling wind made it difficult for both teams, but it was the Crows who dealt with it better, as they dominated first half possession, but struggled to create any real clear-cut opportunities. This changed in the 41st minute as the Enfield keeper failed to deal with a Gus Scott-Morriss cross, with the ball falling at James Potton’s feet. An excellent block from the away defence was in vain, as the ball fell invitingly for Adam Marriott to slot home and give Royston a deserved half time lead.
After the break the Crows continued where they left off and added the decisive second goal in the 66th minute. Potton exchanged passes with Lee Chappell on the left flank before driving inside and unleashing a low 25 yard shot that nestled in the bottom corner of the net.
Enfield tried to work their way back into the game but were either too frequently caught offside or repelled by a well-disciplined home defence. Indeed it took until the 86th minute for them to fashion a chance, as first Darren Purse put a free header wide and then Joe Welch saved well from substitute Montell Moore.
This was as close as Enfield came as Royston saw out time to ensure their safe passage through to the next round.
