In form Royston Town youth Colts under 13’s faced a tricky final league game of 2015 this weekend when they took on division two league leaders BSFC United. The Colts, unbeaten since their 6-1 league cup defeat to United on November 1st, came under constant pressure in the first ten minutes and after an early goal for United, a repeat score line looked likely but the Colts have a never say die attitude these days and they soon settled into the game. Both keepers were kept busy as the end to end game flowed at a frantic pace. The United keeper was looking hard to beat until Stanley Kitchener scored a well placed equaliser after some good attacking football by the Colts. Charlie Hill made a fine save between the home team sticks to keep United at bay and some heroic defending at the back ensured we went into the half time break with the score line level.
The game continued where it left off as the second half got under way with both teams determined to attack. The battling Colts midfield won a lot of 50/50 challenges on the day which allowed our forward line to push on and Harry Alabaster was able to capitalise on a rare mistake by the United keeper when he slotted home his 13th goal of the season to put the Colts 2-1 up. United then showed why they top the table with some with some slick passing football and within ten minutes of taking the lead, the Colts found themselves 2-3 down but the boys heads didn’t drop and the Colts continued to put pressure on the away side from back to front. Man of the match Josh Cook showed the defence the way as he used his pace to set up wave after wave of attack in search of an equaliser and persistence paid off when Ollie Williams smashed in a third goal for the Colts from close range. The game ended 3-3 which was the very least the Colts deserved.
With just one defeat in their last eight league games and a 4th from top place in league Two, Roy, Andy and the boys can now take a well earned break for Christmas and come back next year with confidence sky high!
