Match | Huntingdon Town v Royston Town |
Competition | Ridgeons Youth League: West Division |
Result | Won 3-1 |
Royston Scorers | Carthy, T. Spencer, Bond |
The youth team went back top of the mid week Ridgeons West Division with a good but somewhat unconvincing result at Huntingdon Town on Thursday evening.
Despite take a 6th minute lead when Shane Carthy ran through some weak tackles to convert from ten yards the visitors were unable to get any control of the game and were put under a lot of self inflicted pressure.
Huntingdon created some decent chances but were often let down by some poor finishing or last ditch defending. Goalkeeper Dan Plumb also made a couple of fine saves as well as the woodwork being hit from 25 yards.
The pressure deservedly paid off in the 42nd minute with a fine counter attacking goal and finish.
The second half could only be better from Royston's view and so it was. A swift started saw them re take the lead in the 48th minute when Tom Spencer headed home Ryan Webb's corner at the far post.
The game became more open but despite both teams getting into good positions both goalkeeper's had little to do but regulation things.
The game needed a spark of imagination and substitute Daniel Bond gave the game and Royston just that in the 66th minute when he ran and curled a sublime 30 yard effort into the top corner from all his good work. The goal was worthy of winning any game and it did just that with the game running its time without any more alarms
