After the frost had cleared and the sun had come out a very pleasant morning was had at Greneway school pitch.
Diamonds started well and were 0-1 up after 5 mins from a Chris goal, then another, Celtics coach was now screaming at his team, we had them on the back foot and rattled. Then another to go in at half time 0-3 where that 30 mins went beats me it seemed like 10. No sorry it was only 25 mins as the ref blew 5 mins early.
In the second half Chris scored after 1 min and made it 0-4 he was running the right side of the pitch with a new found swagger that has been coming back in the last few weeks since he moved from playing left to right .It
It was reported after that a spectator said on the side line that Diamonds were a one trick pony.
Jack D came close on a couple of occasions but it wasn't to be his day for goals although he did everything else but put the ball in the net. Tom took a boot in the mouth and had to come off for attention with a bloody lip but was soon keen to get back on. Zac playing at left back in his first full game in that position was managers player of the day with a solid performance even after losing the ball chased back and mopped up to get a ball he really shouldn't have had a chance of retrieving, on one occasion stopping an almost certain goal. Toby and Lewis solid doling out sometimes crunching tackles as we have come to almost expect made it very dificult for the Celtic team to break through. Lathan having his first full game showed great promise and got stuck in as sweeper. Joseph had another strong performance at centre mid and right back moving positions when needed as always without complaint to help the team.
Jack W then scored 0-5 then he did it again 0-6 and then everyone wanted a go. This caused the team to lose shape and Diamonds had a warning that they didn't head when Celtic went close. Celtic then broke again but this time scored and Diamonds looked shakey for 5 mins. Then midfield came back to help as Celtic poured forward.Celtics keeper shouted why didnt you do this from the start. And the answer straight back was Diamonds passed through their midfield and Jack W then scored again to make it 1-7. But Diamonds had now tired and lost shape with a couple of goalmouth scrambles a couple of mistakes and another goal that was well taken chipping the ball over Bradley who had no chance. 2-7. The game was hectic from start to finish with all players doing their job well Bradley in goal had nothing to do for long periods but never lost concentration and foiled Celtic on the occasions that he was needed. Jake on as sub had a sound half and was unlucky not to score when he went through but went wide of the post. A one trick pony Diamonds are not. Weekly growing into a team helping each other and starting to understand each others moves. Chris was voted man of match and this was well deserved but with each and every player doing their part as a team Diamonds on this day were the better team.
