Wow!!
We have been threatening this display since the season started – last week I reported that we had won well but may have a few more gears – well I think we moved into overdrive today.
From start to finish all the Royston boys were fantastic, they soaked up some early West Wratting attacks and patiently built a platform of solid defending, hard-working and creative midfield play and scintillating, deadly attacking football.
1-0 It took us 15 minutes to break the dead-lock and
2-0 The alert Foxy pounced on a loose ball in the penalty box and saw his low shot deflected in.
3-0 Once again
4-0
Half-time 4-0
The boys (and coaches) were buzzing with how this match was going. The West Wratting attacks were being dealt with by strong defensive work by Olly, Kyle, Tommy T and Joe and this was then being turned quickly into positive and speedy forward moves. Keeper George was looking good, extremely quick off his line and kicking well, Adam and Jordan were doing great work on the wings and Callum and Jake were winning the hard but fair battle in the middle. Foxy, Keiran and Mick had kept them busy upfront. We brought on Jonah at half-time, easing him back in gently after an injury, and we asked them all for some more of the same. They were better!!
5-0 Mick converts a penalty after Adam had been hauled back in the area.
6-0 A Keiran corner was half cleared and Mick picked up the ball and sent in a dangerous cross for Jonah to execute a brilliant glancing header high into the net.
7-0 Adam reacts quickest following some good running and bangs home a Mick cross.
8-0 Adam turns provider running to the right hand by-line and crossing back for Mick to finish in style.
9-0 With 12 minutes to go the hard-working Jake sets up Jordan who puts in a great strike high into the
10-0 A tricky solo run and cool finish by the increasingly lively Mick brings up the double figures.
11-0 Scoring completed as Adam bravely heads home from close quarters.
Despite the final score-line this was not a one-sided match.
Well done everyone – keep it going.
