Royston travelled to table toping Baldock and inflicted only the 2nd league defeat of the season on free scoring Knights.
Royston set their stall early in the game and produced one of the best displays of the campaign so far, with free flowing football and a dogged determination to compete for every ball, but it was Baldock who had the first chance with a shot just inside the box that cannoned off the bar.
Royston soon got into the game pushing forward at every opportunity, with a neat passing move involving 5 different players,
Not phased by this Royston continued to cause havoc in the Baldock half, Conor G, Kye & Connor S, linking well with Charlie, to set up Royston’s 2nd.
A change at both ends saw Mason & Jack on for the visitors, with the latter slotting in at centre half for a more normal look to the back line. Royston began to look more assured, with Ben and George playing out of their skin’s to protect the lead, anything that did break through was ably dealt with by Ollie, Matt, Josh and Jack and with Connor L shouting instructions all was looking well.
Connor G, starting only his 2nd game for Royston was at the heart of all their good play, he received the ball just inside the visitors half, beat his marker with his first touch and with his 2nd played a defence splitting pass across field to Mason who strode into the box and with one touch smashed passed the stranded keeper, to take Royston in at the break 3-1 to the good.
After the restart Knights attempted to push there foes back with a succession of long passes from the keeper, but the backline stood firm with Ben and Josh in commanding form in the air. The hosts were limited to strikes from distance and the odd set piece, which Connor L looked more than comfortable with.
Mason kept putting pressure on the left back and forcing errors, one of which led to the final goal as he broke free down the right, whipped in a cross to the far post that was met by Birks who volleyed in from 5 yards.
