Alvechurch deservedly left Garden Walk with all three points as Royston never really did enough to penetrate a well organised away side.
The match winning goal was following the first real action of the game in the 11th minute. A good run down the right from Andre Landell, resulted in a good low cross that found Lee Chilton, who was left with the simplest of tap ins at the far post.
Royston struggled to get into the game, as Alvechurch denied the home side any space and subsequently were unable to create any clear chances to trouble Matt Sargeant in the Church goal.
The second half saw a bit more goalmouth action, with Landell firing over for the away side. Royston responded immediately as Josh Castiglione cut inside, but saw his shot well turned around the post by Sargeant, with what proved to be the only real save that he had to make.
In reality, Royston had goalkeeper Joe Welch to thank for keeping them in the game, as he made four excellent saves to deny Alvechurch a decisive second goal.
In the end they didn’t need this second goal, as 2 good defensive blocks ensured Sargeant was not called into action. The final chance for Royston fell to the in-form James Potton, but he was unable to direct his header below the bar leaving Royston to suffer a 4th successive home league defeat.
