ROYSTON TOWN FC v ST IVES TOWN FC
Saturday 7th March 2020
Royston equalled their biggest league victory of the season as they brushed aside relegation-threatened St Ives Town to maintain their promotion push.
It was actually St Ives who had the ball in the net first, but it was ruled out for offside. It took the Crows a while to get into their stride, but once they did, there was no stopping them, as they scored five without reply.
The first goal arrived on twenty minutes as Gus Scott-Morriss headed home from close range after Ben Martin had turned Josh Castiglione’s deep corner back across goal.
Martin himself got on the scoresheet in the 39th minute, heading home Castiglione’s free-kick, to give the home side a two-goal advantage at the break.
As in the first half, St Ives threatened early on, with Joe Welch saving from Dylan Wilson, with Scott-Morriss being on hand to clear the follow up off the line.
It was, however, Royston who killed the game off, as 2 goals in 5 minutes sealed St Ives fate. With 63 minutes on the clock substitute Josh Oyinsan rose to head home a chipped cross from Brandon Adams, before Oyinsan turned provider, as his low cross was turned in by Matt Bateman at the back post.
The scoring was completed by Taylor Parr in the 76th minute, with the fourth headed goal of the game, this time from an in-swinging Scott Bridges corner, as the Crows moved up to second in the league.
