Royston Town U18’s won the Thurlow Nunn Youth League Cambridge Division after beating title rivals Haverhill Rovers U18’s in their own back yard.
On Tuesday night, Royston Town U18’s had another big game under the lights when they travelled to Haverhill to take on Haverhill Rovers U18’s. This was one of the biggest nights Royston Town U18’s have had since their famous FA Youth Cup run when they played Arsenal U18’s with that being a 2-1 loss to the Young Crows. However we couldn’t afford to lose this game as it was our last game of the season and we would have let Haverhill in with a chance as they still had a game in hand. However a point would still be enough for the Crows.
Both teams were playing a very good game against each other and searching for a precious goal. Fortunately it went in our favour when Oscar Herd’s high crossed ball from outside the box was a likely comfortable save for the goalkeeper, however a spill from the goalkeeper’s gloves the ball went in the path of Jake Emmett and he passed the ball into the net after he nutmegged a Haverhill player to put the Crows 1-0 up. Royston, despite being in a good position and where Haverhill needed to score two goals, Royston were still searching for a second goal to make it more relaxing instead of parking the bus, how football should be played.
In the 2nd half the same style of football was played, both teams going at it. Royston were determined to keep running and searching for another goal while Haverhill were desperate to score an equaliser to make the game more exciting. Changes were made and right at the end Royston had the chance to make it two when Lucas Darby’s cross found Jake Simson however, the ball bobbled and the ball hit him on the leg and went over in the last minute.
There was the full time whistle and celebrations began with Royston Town U18’s being crowned CHAMPIONS of the Thurlow Nunn Youth League, for the first time and wrote themselves in the history books. Congratulations to the players and staff.
