On Easter Saturday Royston Town travelled to Lincolnshire when they played Stamford AFC. Royston were missing players with Kian Harness and Ronnie Henry absent through suspension. Royston Town got in Daniel Baulk and Joshua Fox from the U23’s and also goalkeeper Rylee Mitchell on loan from Stevenage after Louis Chadwick returned to parent club Cambridge United following a goalkeeper crisis.
During the game both teams were looking to go ahead with our keeper facing the sun and Stamford took the lead when Jack Duffy’s shot got the better of Rylee Mitchell in the 38th minute and went into half time in the break. During the second half Stamford’s keeper had to face the sun. However he did not face the sun for long when he was shown a straight red card after a challenge on Samson Esan outside the edge of the penalty area. With Midfielder Billy Bennett going on goal it took Royston Town to even up the scoreline when Andronicos Georgiou had a powerful shot from outside the box sailing past Billy Bennett. About Eight minutes later Billy Bennett swapped for another outfield player and midfielder Will Glennon after Royston were causing problems and looking to go in front and when Demaray Anyadike just did that by crossing the ball and Stamford’s fullback forced the ball into his own net. Afterwards Billy Bennett swapped back with Will Glennon, however Will Glennon was back in goal after Billy Bennett was taken off the pitch after cracking his ankle. We wish him a speedy recovery.
